The Groups Scholars Program was created as a way to increase college attendance among first-generation students at Indiana University. The program provides academic, financial, and social support to help students attain a bachelor's degree at Indiana University.

Students who wish to attend Indiana University and become a Groups Scholar must fulfill the requirements and also be recommended by one of many recommenders throughout the state at various high schools or community agencies.
Newly admitted Groups Scholars must attend a series of meetings in order to participate in the Summer Experience Program.
